Abstract

Background: Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking. It is also called social phobia. It is derived from a Greek word (glossa, meaning tongue and phobos means fear). This phobia is much greater than the fear of death. Even great speakers have this phobia, persons suffering from this phobia have certain physical and verbal symptoms. This study aims to evaluate the awareness of glossophobia among dental students.

Materials and methods: The responses are collected from google form and is tabulated in Microsoft excel which is transferred to SPSSversion 23 software. In SPSS software the data were analysed. Descriptive analysis was performed and graphically represented with a pie chart and correlation was represented in the bar charts.

Result: In this survey, about 50% of students were aware of glossophobia. About 63.73% of students have experience speaking in public. About 50% of students have taken steps to overcome this phobia.

Conclusion: The majority of students have glossophobia. But they are taking steps to overcome this phobia. By constant practice, one can become a speaker or orator.
