Abstract

Introduction: Tobacco smoking is not only taking our health but also our wealth. An education institution would be one of the best learning platforms to deal with comprehensive oral health care. Nicotine has varieties like cigarettes, chewing gums, neurological disorders. Smokers might experience initially while quitting by providing slighter nicotine

Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 146 students from Saveetha Dental college and Hospitals, Chennai. Simple random sampling technique was employed. The institutional review board clearance was obtained following which a Questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was circulated through google forms. (SPSS) software version 23.0 was used for analytics and Pearson’s chi-square association was done to assess the knowledge about the Nicotine chewing gums among dental students.

Result: This survey, 66.67% of responses were yes for nicotine addiction altered behavior and sleep pattern. 69.61% of responses were naturally from plant sources for nicotine. Nicotine is present in pipe tobacco 18.63%, cigarettes 12.75%, cigars 11.76%, all the above 56.86%  of responses.

Conclusion: To raise awareness about the dangers of chewing nicotine gum among dental students.
