Abstract

INTRODUCTION: A dental student is predicted to be an honest model for oral health behaviour. As a healthcare provider, dental students are expected to interact with their friends, relations, patients and their society to take care of good oral health. Attitudes of dental students toward their own oral health reflect their understanding of the importance of preventive dental procedures and their commitment toward improving the oral health of their patients

AIM :   The aim of this study was to research, to create awareness and practices of infection control procedures among dental students

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A self-administered questionnaire concerning various aspects of infection control knowledge and practices was distributed among 101 dental Students performing at the Saveetha University, Chennai. A questionnaire based survey in google forms circulated within the dental students of Saveetha University. A response of about 101 received and the data were collected. . Statistical analysis was done  . The data were tabulated. The data was analysed using SPSS software (version 23) and the chi-square test was done.

RESULT: Around 101 responses,about 50.5% of dental students are aware of hand sanitation. Majority of them were not aware of hand sanitation practices before COVID. 48.5% of dental students apply sanitation upto full hand .About 35.6% of people say hand sanitation practices are not necessary for dental practice. Majority of the dental students use alcohol based hand sanitizers. Students of the age group between 18-30 were more aware of hand sanitation practices. Females were more aware of hand sanitation. First years knew more about hand sanitation practices.

CONCLUSION: This study identified a number of hand hygiene compliance failures among dental students. Educational strategies by means of a rise in motivation to perform hand hygiene properly, and vigorous implementation would be crucial to enhance adherence
