FUTURE ASPIRATION OF PROFESSIONAL CAREERS AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS- A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY

Abstract

Introduction: Dentistry has its unique hierarchy in society as professional health care worker but it's still an emerging field in India. Increasing awareness about dental education among Indian population has raised their expectations from dental practitioners and lots of patients prefer consulting a specialist, rather than an undergraduate

Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to evaluate the future aspiration of professional careers among dental students.

Materials and Method: A cross-sectional study was done using google docs. A self-structured questionnaire containing 15 questions was prepared and approved by SRB of Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals. The link was shared to 103 Undergraduate dental students, and the results were analysed using SPSS statistics Version 23 and represented in the form of a pie chart using descriptive statistics.The P value was set at p<0.05.

Result: The distribution of responses of study subjects based on the question "Future aspirations about the professional career." The majority of study subjects responded to doctors (54.37%). The distribution of study subjects based on the question "Was dentistry their choice of profession?" The majority of study subjects responded to yes (46.60%).

Conclusion; This study has brought out the changing trends of doing post graduation. The students who took part in this study were not a representative sample, but rather a "convenience sample." Nonetheless, their perspectives provide a fascinating snapshot of dental students. They cannot be considered typical of all dental students' viewpoints.
