PREVALENCE OF CLAUSTROPHOBIA AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS - A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY
Abstract
Background: Claustrophobia is a situational phobia, the fear of confined spaces. It is one of the most common phobias. Claustrophobia is one of the most common phobias. If you experience claustrophobia, feel like a panic attack,although claustrophobia can disappear on its own. The symptoms are sweating, feeling intense fear or panic,nausea, feeling or light head, chest tightness of pain.
Aim: To analyse the claustrophobia among the population of dental students and to create awareness among dental students.
Materials and methods: The cross sectional study was conducted through questionnaires, analysed among the students, which were distributed through the google forms. The data were analysed by using SPSS software (version 23.0).
Result: The study consisted of 100 of respondents. 31.00% were male and 69.00% were female. 50.00% were female participants and 19.00% were male participants said that they experienced their phobias in public (chi square value, p value=0.264). 38.00% of female participants and 14.00% of male participants have come across different phobias (chi square value, p value= 0.359). 40.00% of female participants and 23.00% of male participants have discussed their phobia to parents, friends and relatives (chi square value, p value=0.770).
Conclusion: Most students are aware of claustrophobia and have a good knowledge about it, as it is a psychological disorder in which the person fears enclosed spaces or physical restriction.
