PREVALENCE OF DYSTYCHIPHOBIA AMONG UNDERGRADUATE DENTAL STUDENTS - A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY

Abstract

Background: Accidents have increased its growth rate in parallel to the development of technology and fast running lifestyles. People have different phobias which they didn't even know existed, such as dystychiphobia, the worship of accidents. Many specialists have seen how this trend affects people, what changes are visualised in their lives and how they have been able to lead their lives.

Aim: To analyse the prevalence of dystychiphobia among dental students.

Materials and methods: Quantitative, exploratory research approach with cross-sectional survey design was used to assess the degree of dystychiphobia in 104 conveniently selected college students of chennai, tamil nadu using dystychiphobia questionnaire.

Results: This study found that 44.23% students are suffering from dystychiphobia and 49.04% of them are scared of accidents and only 46.15% of them are aware of the term ‘dystychiphobia’.

Conclusion: It is concluded that 44.23% students are suffering from dystychiphobia. People with excessive levels change their lifestyle due to this phobia. Further, more attention should be given for the early detection and intervention for treatment of dystychiphobia.
