Abstract

Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) encephalitis (HSVE) is an uncommon neurological disorder caused by a viral infection of the human central nervous system (CNS).It is, nevertheless, the most prevalent cause of sporadic encephalitis. HSVE is expected to have a global yearly incidence of 1–4 cases/1,000,000. HSVE has a bimodal age distribution, with peak incidences in children under the age of three and those over the age of 50. The majority of instances affect those over the age  of 50, including men and women. The diagnosis of HSVE is complicated, and the prognosis is guarded.  If therapy is delayed or not given at all, the risk of morbidity and fatality increases. There could be medicolegal ramifications in these situations, including legal liability for medical misconduct and nervous system injury evaluation. The example of a 60year old man with HSVE is presented.
