Consequences of consumption of alcohol in India: An Empirical study

Abstract

The factors influencing and consequences of alcohol consumption have been assessed mainly in India. This study estimates the factors and manners by which issue drinking influence family members, employers, colleagues and others.Chi square and Kruskal Wallis test were used to test the association between income, Factors influencing consumption of alcohol and manners by which issue drinking influence family members, employers, colleagues and others. Socio demographics data; prevalence of use of factors influencing to consume alcohol in the past 6 months’ time period January to June 2021 information about the consequences resulting from alcohol consumption; Disregard of significant obligations, requiring time to nurture headaches, experiencing legitimate issues, The failure to stop voluntarily, Drink to escape pain were collected.Of all 384 respondents, 32% respondent’s annual income is less than Rs 2,50,000. 55% of individual were influenced by their friends, 7% were influenced by work pressure, 3% were influenced by family pressure and 4.6% were influenced by loneliness. The consumption of alcohol resulting in to 23% failure to stop voluntarily, 22.39% disregard of significant obligation, 19.79% experiencing legitimate issue, 19.53% requiring time to nurture headaches, 15.36% drunk to escape pain. In Conclusion, it was observed that factors influencing and its consequences issue related with consumption of alcohol. It is Strongly recommended that the individual should take counselling to prevent his/her health, manners by which issue drinking influences family members, employers, colleagues and others and to build their career.
