Abstract

Health is multi-factorial, the factors which influence health lie both within the individual and externally in the society in which he or she lives. Health of a person depends on a combination of two sets of factors which includes his genetic factors and the environmental factors to which he is exposed. Disease results from a complex interaction between the man, the agent and the environment. Disease arises when there is maladjustment of the individual with his environment (1).

Oral health is essential to general health and quality of life. It is a state of being free from mouth and facial pain, oral and throat cancer, oral infection and sores, periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay, tooth loss, and other diseases and disorders that limit an individual’s capacity in biting, chewing, smiling, speaking, and psychosocial wellbeing.
