Covid-19 Pandemic: Challenges Faced by the Tourism and Hospitality Sector in Uttarakhand

Abstract

Uttarakhand is one of the states which are totally dependent on tourism as a source of state revenue. A large number of tourists every year come this place for meditation, visiting beautiful places, meadows, Himalayas,  enjoying the climate, performing adventurous activities, visiting different temples etc. which contributes to a large share in the state economy. But due to COVID 19 pandemic it had not only impacted the live and status of the people but also the overall economy of the state. As a result there came a decline in tourists from foreign countries which lead to fall of foreign exchange earnings. A Descriptive research design was used for conducting the present study. The study was carried out in different cities of Uttarakhand State. Questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection through Google form. A sample size comprised of 120 respondents which consisted of questions related to Background information and the Issues and challenges faced by the people working in the hospitality sector due to COVID 19 pandemic. Respondents include Tour operators, Travel agents, Homestay owners, Drivers, Guides, Small traders, Artisans & Craftsman, Gardeners, Hospitality staff and other service providers etc. On the basis of the data received analysis was done.
