To Assess the Effectiveness of Information Booklet On Knowledge Regarding Selected Gastro-Intestinal Disorders Among Older Adults in Selected Old Age Homes.

Abstract

Background & Introduction:Ageing is accompanied by several changes in the gastrointestinal system and older adults frequently present with GI problems. Gastrointestinal changes in the aged group are common, some GI disorders have more incidence rate in elderly. Some of the changes are physiologic, pathologic are particularly occurring in the older age group more than 60 years of age. Aim: This study was aimed to access the knowledge, effectiveness of information booklet and to associate the findings with demographic variables. Method:  A quantitative research design used in the research study. The study was conducted in selected old age homes of Pune city. Self-structured questionnaire was prepared to assess the awareness related to Selected Gastro-intestinal disorders. Samples filled the questionnaire within 15-20 minutes. After that information booklet was administered to experimental group. After one week, post-test is done. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics based on objective. Result: p-values is <0.00001 and it is less than 0.05 so there is statistically significant difference in the experimental group post-test and control group post-test. Calculated ‘t” statistics is 10.56 is more than “t-table value” 2.00 at 49 degree of freedom with 0.05 level of significance. Information booklet is significant in increasing knowledge of participants because the mean knowledge score of participants improved in the experimental group post-test as compare to control group post-test.Conclusion: The information booklet statistically found effective in increasing the knowledge of participants.
