Management of Cerebro-Vascular Stroke (Pakshaghata) with the Successful Intervention of Ayurveda: A Case Report

Abstract

Background: Vataj Nanatmaja Vyadhi Pakshaghata is a Mahavatavyadhi Vataj Nanatmaja Vyadhi. Pakshaghata has been linked to hemiplegia, a type of paralysis caused by a cerebrovascular accident or stroke. 'Pakshsya Dehangasya Ghaatam Vinashanam Yasmaat Yatra Vaa' | ‘Pakshsya Dehangasya Ghaatam Vinashanam Yasmaat Yatra Vaa'. The word Paksha is expected in the following synonyms, but the suffixes, such as Aghata, Ghata, and Vadha, differ. Paksha refers to a man's flank or side, while Ghata, Aghata, and Vadha refer to killing, destruction, and paralysis. In Sharira, Vata is regarded as the controller of all the Tridoshas. Vatavyadhi is the influence of vitiated Vata on the Dusyas, which penetrates the entire body or a part of it and causes various ailments. Pakshaghata, also known as hemiplegia, is one of the most common disorders of this type. Materials and Methods- It is a single study of a 48-year-old patient who presented himself with a deviation in angle of mouth to the right side, salivation from right side, difficulty in walking from right side, unable to move (right side), loss of sensation of the right hand. After examination, treatment was started through (Mahayogaraaj Guggulu Vaatvidhvans ras. Ekangveer ras Dashamul churna Ashwagandha churna), and for panchakarma, Nasya was planned. Observation and Result- After successfully combining shaman treatment and Nasya as primary Panchakarma treatment for consecutive times, the patient got complete relief in all complaints. Discussion- Utilizing the basic concept of Ayurveda (Nidanpanchaka), drugs with potent properties such as Vataghna, Bruhana, Ushna Veerya were utilized to manage this condition which showed promising results. Conclusion- Ayurveda management with Shodhana and Shaman treatment based on the fundamentals of Ayurveda is effective in Pakshaghata (cerebrovascular stroke).
