Abstract

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 is the lethal viral infection that has been raging since December 2019. There is marked impact on various organ system of COVID-19. Circulatory system is also one of them. Blood constituents are essential and vital for proper functioning of other organs as they transport nutrients and oxygen to different parts of the body.

 

SUMMARY : There has been observed a lot of variation in levels of blood constituents post COVID-19 infection. Especially platelets which acts as a barrier after injury to avoid excessive loss of blood. A condition of thrombocytopenia in which the platelet count falls below minimum threshold. It can lead to serious complications especially in COVID-19. Coagulation is yet another issue attached with COVID-19. There has been seen a lot of patients with blood clots, which hinder the proper functioning of the organs. Both of these phenomenon was mainly observed among moderate to critical patients. 

 

CONCLUSION: Certain medical indicator can be monitored to find out whether the patient will fall into critical stage or not. Correlation between platelet counts and severity of COVID-19 infection must be backed by more empirical evidences from across nations. The collapsing health acre infrastructure and lack of health acre professionals is taking tools not only among patients but among medical professionals too. Overworked professionals are constantly under pressure, physically as well as mentally, adversely affecting their efficiency. Vaccination should be accelerated after resolving logistics and supply issues so that the burden on the health care infrastructure lower down.
