Abstract

Background: Hrudroga is a disease of the heart. Its aetiology, types and treatment have mentioned in our samhitas. It regards the various diseases of the cardiovascular system. Many systemic disorders and faulty lifestyle are the major factors of this IHD (Ischemic Heart Diseases). IHD affects around 126 million individuals, which is approximately 1.72% of the world's population. Yogaratnakara, the prime text of Ayurveda, which has emerged from the 17th century AD, is a masterpiece of Indian medicine containing a lot of medicinal preparations. Aim & objective: To review and collect the formulations of Hrudrogas described in Yogartnakar. Material & method: Formulations that have mentioned Hrudroga in their indications collected chapter wise from Purvardha and Uttarardha, and again categorized according to its dosage forms. Observations: 93 herbal and herbo-mineral formulations described in various dosage forms have been reviewed and collected from Yogaratnakar which are indicated in various heart disorders. Experimental and clinical researches conducted on few formulations revealed its Antihyperlipidemic and cardioprotective activity. Conclusion:  The present work will be valuable in recognition of newer formulations and their therapeutic applications. If further such studies are planned with other formulations then it will be a boon to the patients suffering from heart disorders.
