Assessment of Primary Schools Teachers’ Knowledge about First Aids in Al-Najaf City

Abstract

Background: Hyperactivity and poor awareness of the surrounding dangers are the most important attributes of primary school children. Therefore, protecting these children and providing them with first aid is of paramount importance.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess of  teachers’ knowledge about First Aids at primary schools in Al-Najaf City.

Methodology: Non-experimental descriptive design study was conducted during the periods of November 30th 2020 to January 28th 2021. The study was conducted in ten public primary schools in Al-Najaf  city , five schools in the northern sector and five schools in the southern sector. Non-probability accidental sampling technique was used, and fifty teachers were chosen for the study including both gender. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaire which consisted main two parts , the first part was contained socio-demographic characteristic for teachers, while, the second part was contained questions related knowledge regarding first aid which was divided into eight domains (47 questions) .and analyzed by a descriptive and inferential statistical data analysis approach.

Results: The results shows that teachers' knowledge about first aids among primary schools' teachers  in Al-Najaf city was low level assessment for most fields.

Conclusion: The knowledge of primary school teachers regarding first aid was insufficient.
