Prevalence of Hypertension in patients with diabetes mellitus; Cross-section study

Abstract

Aim: To determine the frequency of hypertension in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Study Design: Cross-section study

Place and duration: This study was conducted in Muhammad Medical College and Hospital Mirpurkhas, Pakistan from June January 2019 to January 2020.

Methodology: We used a non-randomized convenience sampling strategy. Patients over the age of 20 years who came to our hospital for diabetic treatment were included. Participant’s demographics, Blood Pressure, hypertension duration, smoking status, fasting blood glucose, and diabetes history were gathered.

Results: In a study of 157 patients, 64.33 percent (n=101) were males, and 35.66 percent (n=56) were females. The mean age was 64.45, 12.19 years. In diabetic patients, hypertension was found in 29.93 percent cases. It was 34.65 percent in males and 21.43 percent in females. Patients with diabetes for a longer period of time had a greater prevalence of hypertension (X2= 8.53, P0.034).

Conclusion: Hypertension is common in diabetic individuals, and it is linked to the length of time the patient had diabetes.
