Analysis on effect of Interactive Multimedia teaching unit on student perception and understanding – A Cross-sectional survey

Abstract

Introduction

Interactive multimedia teaching is the advanced teaching methodology  for the students, which encourages the student to collect information through media, and at the same time, it creates the interest in learning the subjects with the proper concepts. Interactive multimedia teaching also helps in bite-size learning. Multimedia teaching will be the alternative to the traditional method of teaching. The aim of this study is to know the effect of interactive multimedia teaching among the students.

Materials and method

A self-administered questionnaire of close-ended questions was prepared and it was distributed among dental students from February to April 2021 through the online survey “google forms”. The collected data were checked regularly for clarity, competence, consistency, accuracy, and validity. Demographic details were also included in the questionnaire.

Results

Data obtained were collected in google sheets and exported to SPSS version 23 for statistical analysis. Descriptive and Chi Square tests have been done, statistical analysis showed. In our survey, 84.8% of students prefer multimedia teaching compared to the conventional method of teaching and 94.3% of students said that multimedia teaching creates more interaction during class hours.

Conclusion

From the above study, we can say that interactive multimedia teaching is more helpful in learning the concepts of the subjects and at the same time interactive multimedia teaching creates the interest in the subject and helps to acquire the knowledge.
