Abstract

Background: A Complete denture is a removable appliance used when all these within a jaw have been lost and need to be prosthetically replaced. Unlike partial denture, a complete denture is an exclusively tissue supported prosthesis. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge and awareness of complete denture among UG students.

Materials And Methods: The current study was a cross-sectional questionnaire study. It was based on a survey. The first, second, third , fourth and fifth year students of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai were the subjects/participants of the study. The sample size of the present study was 109 students. The questionnaire consisted of 15 questions.The responses/answers for all the 15 questions were collected by online mode. The data collected was opened into Excel and then imported to SPSS.The responses or data were collected and run through SPSS ( statistical package for the social sciences) version 23.0. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics ( chi square test ) was done for statistical analysis purposes.

Results:  The results showed that as students advance academically their knowledge and awareness and complete dentures is more. The first year student showed to have the least knowledge on complete dentures. They were aware that complete denture was a treatment option but they were not aware of its fabrication and materials.The chi square test revealed that there is an association between gender and year of study with knowledge and awareness of complete denture.

Conclusion: The study can be concluded with all the data collected from SPSS that have shown that there is an association/correlation between year of study and their respective knowledge/awareness on complete dentures.
