Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the antioxidant capacity of a methanolic extract of Ziziphus mouritiana(L). The purpose of this work was to examine the antioxidant capacity of Ziziphus mauritiana (L) leaf extracts.Theleaves extracts were prepared to form Ziziphus mauritianaLam. Usingdifferent solvents. The in vitro antioxidant capacity of the extracts was tested. The most potent antioxidant extract was identified using in-vitro DPPH free radical scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation, as well as ex-vivo catalase and superoxide dismutase activity. An antioxidant is a compound that can stop the chain reactions that harm cells by eliminating free radical intermediates and inhibiting other oxidation events, lowering the stress that causes many degenerative diseases. The current work concentrated on the phytochemical screening, antioxidant, and antibacterial activity of methanolicZiziphusmauritiana leaves extract. The methanol extract had an IC 50 value of 85.23 g/ml, whereas the normal ascorbic acid had an IC 50 value of 30.03 g/ml.The extracts clearly demonstrated proton-donating capacity, which might function as free radical inhibitors or scavengers, perhaps acting as major antioxidants. As a consequence, this plant's methanol extract has the best capacity to scavenge DPPH radicals.Ziziphusmauritiana leaf extracts exhibited antimicrobial potential against Staphylococcus aureus (20±0.2, 21±0.1 and 23±0.1),Salmonella bongori (9±0.3, 12±0.1and 15±0.5) and Aspergillus niger (7±0.1, 9±0.1 and 11±0.2)at the concentration level of 25-100mg/ml. The antibacterial activity of the extract was shown to be more efficient against both chosen bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella bongori) but less effective against fungus (Aspergillus niger). According to the current research, the leaves of this plant might be utilised to manufacture health supplements and as a topical treatment.
