Anomalies of teeth can be associated with primary, mix or adult dentition. Anomalies are the results of tissue which may be influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Dentists and dental students frequently encounter developmental anomaly affected patients. Although there have been many studies on the prevalence of developmental anomalies, none have assessed the knowledge about the same among dental students.

Aim To assess the knowledge about developmental disturbances in the oral cavity among undergraduate dental students.

Materials And Methods A self administered survey form was created and circulated as an online survey link. 100 responses were collected and the results were statistically analysed using SPSS software version 23.0. Chi square test was done to analyse the data obtained.

Results 60% of the students responded that unilateral is the most common type of cleft lip. 91% of the students responded that deficiency of vitamin B and folic acid deficiency caused cleft lip. 65% of the students responded to buccal exostosis as the more common exostosis in the oral cavity. 84% of the students responded that they are aware of tongue tie. 82% of the students responded that dental fluorosis is characterised by hypomineralization of tooth enamel due to excessive ingestion of fluoride.

Conclusion: Oral and dental anomalies are frequently encountered by dental practitioners. More awareness should be created on developmental disturbances and its consequences among dental practitioners. More Studies should be conducted on awareness of developmental disturbances.
}, number={2}, journal={Drugs and Cell Therapies in Hematology}, author={Noor Fathima.
